I have included this fine model of the Durham and NY built by Carson Turncliff, I answered a query that Carson had posted on a Model Engineering forum, from that any query Carson had about the building of his engine he would E-mail me, and I would send hopefully the answer back that would help him with the build.
Explaining the valve timing by E-mail was a challenge for me, I had to explain the procedure for the valve timing by the written word, a job I was only used to doing hands on, a lot of E-mails between Carson and myself went into the valve timing , but it was a nice feeling when a E-mail from Carson arrived declaring “it’s running” it was Carson’s skill and craftsmanship that got the job done, I only offered the theory, and I also gained a friend.
Carson’s engine is fired by Propane gas, the gas cylinder is fitted in the riding truck.
And as this picture shows out for a road run, this is what makes all the time and work worthwhile
