My name is Michael Robinson a Joiner by trade now retired, from a young boy I have been making models I started with model aircraft, then for several years I built and sailed model boats, I always had an interest in model steam traction engines
I got the chance to drive a 3” scale traction engine which gave me the experience of what these models were all about, and it decided me to have a go and build a model of my own. I decided to build the 2” scale Durham and North Yorkshire traction engine, a model I had seen many times it is a powerful engine and is easy to transport, the model took me three years to build, I then built the 3” scale Marshall traction engine which took me eight
years to build.
I bought the boilers for both engines, a copper boiler for the Durham and a steel boiler for the Marshall. my site features these two engines and the pictures may be of help to anybody who is building a traction engine for the first time.
I have included some of my other models which I have made over several years, I am not an expert model engineer and have not yet got around to joining a model club, I do the job in my own practicable way to get the results I want and do not always go by the book.
I do not have a big workshop, my lathe is a Myford 254s, Drilling Machine, Bench Grinder, Linisher, and a small Milling Machine, and the small tools that are needed to work in metal, my work space is a small area of my garage and is not a dedicated workshop, my space is shared with gardening gear , washing machine, dryer, ladders and a car !!
